Fault codes explained without the jargon
If a scan has handed you a code, look it up here. You will find what it actually means, the symptoms that come with it, the causes behind it, and an honest idea of what it costs to put right.
A code narrows things down — it does not diagnose on its own. Two cars with the same stored code regularly need completely different repairs. Always measure before replacing.

- C1256UrgentABS Accumulator Low PressureOn Toyota and Lexus hybrids, C1256 means the brake booster accumulator is not holding enough pressure. Every pedal press forces the pump to work harde…Read the full breakdown

How we approach a fault code
Read the code, then test the circuit. Replacing a component because a code mentions it is how customers end up paying twice for the same fault.
1. Read everything, not one code
A single code in isolation frequently misleads. Pending and history codes in other modules usually tell the rest of the story.
2. Check the basics first
12V battery condition, earth points, coolant level and connector condition explain an embarrassing share of 'component failures'.
3. Measure the actual value
Pressure, voltage, resistance or capacity — whatever the code refers to, measure it. That is what separates a diagnosis from a guess.
4. Then decide repair or replace
Once the measurement is on the table, the correct repair is usually obvious, and so is whether a cheaper rebuild will hold.
Send us the codes and we will tell you what it usually costs
Forward the scan printout or just type the codes. We have seen all of these many times and can usually point you in the right direction before you spend anything.
